displaced/30

by poems & doodles

lately i’ve been
a mountain caught
in the shadow of a wave.

momentarily nestled
in the troughs and hollows
of water walls

lulled by the
sound of a
slow draw
arching into
a white crested frenzy.

i can’t sleep here
beneath this moonless dark,
in this watery haze
that blurs the shore
dims the stars,
obscures the light
and makes everything bleed.

so i wait for the collapse
the roar of the fall
and the flood of bruises
to upturn and displace
these roots,
erode these well worn paths
and give me softer ground.

then i wait
for the recovery,
the recede.

until finally,
one day,
the sun.
