you’re starting to love

the fullness of your

cheeks and the weight

of your steps again.

you peeled a mango

this morning and

caught a sun-colored

bead of juice dripping

down your forearm with a

half moon smile, a

and the way you dumped

cream into your coffee, it

almost looked careless,

it wasn’t until you talked about

trying watercolors again

 – stopping only to suck

on your stirring spoon –

that i thought

i’ve missed you. this you.

the hungry, present you

sitting in sunlight, casting a shadow

one that

i mistook for a ghost for

far too long.
